Requirements for Admission to the MSA - Agricultural Education

Students seeking admission into the Master of Science in Agriculture with a concentration in Agricultural Education must meet the following additional program requirements:

  • If a student is seeking teaching licensure, they will have to satisfy the state of Arkansas’ current requirements for an alternative licensure path including successfully meeting or exceeding the minimum score on the Praxis II Agricultural Content exam.
  • Submit contact information (including email and phone number) for three references.
  • Submit a statement of educational objectives and career goals (approximately 500 words).
  • Indicate preference for either the Thesis or Non-Thesis option.
  • Indicate if pursuing teacher licensure (must have successfully completed requirements for conferral of a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture). 

Students granted unconditional admission into the Master of Science in Agriculture with a concentration in Agricultural Education must have a minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.70 on a 4.00 scale or a 3.0 on the last 60 hours of undergraduate work.

Students with an overall undergraduate GPA between 2.5 and 2.7 in the last 60 hours may apply for conditional admission. For conditional admission, a student must complete 12 hours of graduate-level coursework within three semesters and earn a 3.00 GPA with no more than three hours of “C” in the 12 hours.

Courses in the Concentration Area

Each student, with the assistance and approval of their graduate advisor and graduate committee, will select courses leading to specialized training in Agricultural Education.

Thesis or Non-Thesis Option

Students pursuing the thesis option will count six hours of thesis toward the degree. Students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in the future should consult with their faculty advisor before choosing either the Thesis or Non-thesis option for the Master of Science in Agriculture degree.
